Absolute Divorce in North Carolina

Absolute Divorce is available in NC to married couples who have been living separate and apart for at least one year and where one spouse has lived in NC for at least 6 months. We can obtain a divorce Judgment for you in New Hanover, Pender, or Brunswick Counties.

Divorce can be an emotional time for couples, and it is advisable to have a divorce lawyer in North Carolina, who can provide guidance on the legal aspects of your divorce. A divorce attorney is experienced and can help you navigate the complexities of North Carolina’s divorce laws, which vary for each case. We can assist you!  We will file the paperwork (called a Complaint or pleading) and documentation required for a divorce, get your spouse properly served with the divorce papers by sheriff, certified mail, or having them sign an Acceptance of Service which we will file on your behalf with the court.

Then your spouse will have a period of time within which to respond to the pleading and decide whether to have an attorney assist them in responding. After that period of time is up, we will notify your spouse and the court that we are ready to have a hearing to ask the Judge to enter your Judgment of Absolute Divorce. We will go to court for you at the date of the hearing. You do not need to attend. When we are finished, we will give you a copy of your divorce Judgment and send a copy to your spouse or their attorney.

Prospective clients who call our office have many questions about the process and although it is pretty straightforward when you do this every day, the paperwork and process can be complicated when you are not a divorce professional, especially if you are struggling emotionally or otherwise with the process. We can get your divorce finished with very little effort from you. No need to give yourself stress and anxiety trying to research it online, go to the courthouse and try to find the correct paperwork and then figure out how to fill it out, how to pay the clerk and file it, and then what to do with it afterwards! We got this! Let us take the burden off of you!

If you have custody or child support issues, need to divide property or seek spousal support, we can help you do that before you have been separated for a year so don’t wait. If you have not separated from your spouse yet, and you are not sure what to say or how to go about it, we have recommendations for you and will support you every step of the way.

Call us today and put an end to your separation and divorce anxiety!
