MEET VIRGINIA HAGER
Virginia Hager has been a dedicated Family Law attorney in Wilmington, North Carolina for more than three decades. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics with a focus in Public Policy from Allegheny College before completing her legal education at William & Mary Law School. This foundation in both policy and law continues to shape her thoughtful, strategic approach to family matters.
Ms. Hager began her legal career in private practice in Wilmington, where she has concentrated on all areas of domestic relations, including child custody, divorce, collaborative divorce, domestic violence, and matters affecting LGBTQ+ clients. In 2012, she expanded her work to include Collaborative Divorce, an out-of-court negotiation process that gives couples greater privacy, reduces conflict, and helps preserve respectful communication during and after separation.
With over thirty years of experience, Ms. Hager brings clarity, steadiness, and strong advocacy to each case. MEET KATHRYN C. JOHNSTON
A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Kathryn C. Johnston built her academic and professional foundation in Virginia. She graduated from Hollins College with a double major in Art History and French before earning her law degree from Washington & Lee University, where she served on the National Moot Court Team.
After law school, Ms. Johnston practiced corporate law at a large Tennessee firm, focusing on federal regulatory work, civil defense, and the (then emerging) field of electronic document policy. She later took time away from practice to raise her children, spending five rewarding years as a stay-at-home parent.
Ms. Johnston returned to the legal profession with renewed energy when her family relocated to North Carolina. She became licensed as a Superior Court Mediator and Family Financial Settlement Mediator, and from 2014 to 2017 she provided mediation services with The ADR Center in Wilmington. Through this work she discovered that Family Law offered the ideal intersection of problem-solving, client connection, and meaningful impact during one of the most challenging periods in a person’s life.
Since 2019, Ms. Johnston has practiced exclusively in Family Law. She relocated to Wilmington from Raleigh in May 2025 and continues to bring empathy, clarity, and strong advocacy to every client she serves.
